PUMPING PLASMA POOL PARTY
At the Royal College of Art (RCA) Adam is a member of Architectural Design Studio 4 (ADS4), tutored by Gerrard O'Carroll, Nicola Koller and Ollie Alsop.
Most common architectural theory and practice tends to design for the perfect citizen: never questioning their unofficial motivations or desires. ADS4 works in opposition to this, researching emerging social trends and technologies in the light of real, fragile human behaviour. Design is the critical tool, allowing us to grapple with ethical contradictions and dilemmas. Truth can be stranger than fiction.
In 08/09, ADS4 chose a theme of 'HERO'. Through the years, the hero/superhero has been used to embody our social and political realities. In the 21st century the idealist image of the superhero has given way to the antihero - a character we can more easily identify with in the gritty real world. ADS4 set out to create antiheroic architecture.
Following research into emerging screening technologies and an imminent UK blood deficit, Adam designed 'PUMPING PLASMA POOL PARTY' - a facility on Oxford Street, London set in 2018. There, thousands of young adults a day could assure their sexual and blood health and donate blood to gain access to a hedonistic Lido complex.
